Heat!

The Great Experiment:  A corn burning furnace.

Here's Gary Loeffler Jr., the HVAC engineer, installing the "A-Maize-ing Heat"

corn furnace.  It plugs right in to the heat/AC ducts and burns corn, wood pellet,

just about anything that's a seed.  It has a variable rate, thermostatically controlled,

metering auger that feeds the corn into the unit.  Can produce up to 65,000 BTU

and will run for about 10 days without refilling the hoper.

Here's the link to the company that makes it: http://www.ldjamaizeingheat.com/

Gary is running the four-zone systems duct work in the basement

A very tricky system.  Two zones for the basement and two for the main floor.

There is another unit in the 2nd floor for a 2nd floor zone (not shown here).

The 14 bushel corn hopper is assembled and awaiting installation.

UPDATE July 4th, 2008

All three heat pump systems were test run this past weekend.

Gary isn't quite done with them just yet and the corn furnace test

fire is still pending.  He's almost done.

The basement reminds me of an engine room on a ship now. :)

The carpenter, Dave, has already nicknamed the outside units of the

heat pump systems as; "Larry", "Curly", & "Mow".
