Welcome to my Un-real Estate.

This page is dedicated to the construction of my Southland, "Caroline II", log home and the people that built it.

( I'm trying to update it at least once a week so come back again from time to time to check on our progress.)

Here is one of the latest images of the house

About the home package:  This is a customized version of Southland Log Home's "Caroline II" model.  I decided in an instant to, not only build a dream home, but to build the Caroline II log home after walking through the model of this home.  Southland erected the model home on the exit ramp of I-95 & Rt. 3  in Fredericksburg, Va.

The Caroline II is a two story with a balcony overlooking a great room, a master bedroom on the main floor and three bedrooms on the upper floor.  Other logs types are available such as round, 'D' shaped, and so on.  Pine is the standard wood type used.

My customized log package will complete a 4,600 sq. foot home (including basement) with a full wrap-around porch on top of a full walkout basement.  The logs are 6x12 dovetail Western Red Cedar logs shipped in from the west coast by special order.  This added about %20 to the cost of the package but it was worth every cent.

About the Builder (Plan 'B'):

Ok, so here's the thing.  I had to change builders on the project.  It took a long time but we're back!  The new builder is "Loeffler Construction".  The project manager is Gary Loeffler.  It's really not a big company.  Gary seems to be very meticulous about his work.  I'm much happier with this guy.

The Master Carpenter on this project was Dave Park  You can reach him via Loeffler Construction (above).

Heating & A/C Installation

was done by Gary Loeffler Jr.  Who, by the way, also installed my corn burning furnace http://www.ldjamaizeingheat.com/

Plumbing

Why that's good old Roscoe Jones.  He installed all copper water pipe for me in this house.

I don't think he has a web site yet but just send me an email and I hand it to him. UnrealRandy@hotmail.com

The cast iron bathtub

was sent out for refinishing to a local Fredericksburg area company:

What about the land?

The building lot is 5 and 1/2 wooded acres that rise up from the road to the building site at the back of the property to give great water-view of an inlet to the Potomac river in Virginia.  It was given to me by my parents who live near by.  A good friend of mine gave me this cool panoramic picture of house site before it was cleared for construction (Winter shot).  It shows the water-view that the house will have.  It has great potential once enough select trees are cleared.
